What to avoid under €25,000
The cars to walk away from regardless of price or how good the listing looks.
❌ Early BMW F30/F31 320d with N47 engine (pre-2015)
Timing chain failure risk. Buy post-2015 B47 only. The chain job costs €2,800 preventatively — factor that in.
❌ Mercedes C-Class W204 CDI without injector check
Injector failures at 100,000–160,000km. Get a diagnostic before buying any W204 CDI.
❌ Any automatic without verified DSG/DCT fluid history
At €25,000 you are buying 4–6 year old cars. DSG fluid should have been changed at least once. Non-negotiable.
The Bottom Line
At €25,000 the RAV4 Mk5 Hybrid is the outstanding SUV purchase in Ireland — reliable, economical, and practical. For an estate the Skoda Superb Combi or BMW 3 Series F31 Touring 320d are exceptional value. For a hatchback, the Golf GTI Mk7.5 is the definitive choice.
