The most-discussed EV comparison in Ireland right now. The Model 3 has the charging network. The Ioniq 5 has the space, the 800V charging, and the retro-futurist style. Here is the honest comparison.
Ireland's most widely available used EV. Supercharger network makes long Irish journeys stress-free. Excellent software, strong range. Firm ride and screen-only controls are the main complaints.
A genuinely exceptional EV. 800V ultra-fast charging, massive interior space, V2L vehicle-to-load, and the flat floor makes it genuinely roomier than the Model 3. The outstanding family EV in Ireland.

Tesla Superchargers remain the most reliable fast-charging option in Ireland. If you regularly travel Dublin–Cork, Dublin–Galway, or to rural areas, this is a real-world advantage. Ioniq 5 owners use Ionity, ESB eCars, and other CCS networks — coverage is improving but Supercharger consistency still leads. For mostly urban and suburban driving the gap is negligible.
The Ioniq 5's flat floor is one of the most underrated features on any car at this price. Rear passengers get genuine stretch-out legroom. Combined with the sliding rear seat, it turns a family SUV-sized footprint into something that feels genuinely larger inside than it looks outside.
The Ioniq 5 is the better family EV — more space, faster charging, more comfortable, and better built. The price premium over the Model 3 is real but justified for a family buyer keeping the car 4–6 years. The Model 3 is the correct choice if budget is the constraint or if long motorway journeys via Supercharger are your priority. Check battery SoH on both before buying.
A Cartell or Motorcheck report costs €10–€15 and takes two minutes. These are the flags to watch for on a used Tesla Model 3 or Hyundai Ioniq 5:
